Authenticity Guarantee

At Icon Sports Marketing, we guarantee the authenticity of every item we sell. Every hand-signed product you get from us is accompanied by our certificate of authenticity, which has a hologram assigned with a unique five-digit serial number. A matching hologram with the same serial number is affixed on the item to ensure complete verification. You can input the serial number of your item in the “Search Hologram #” search bar, which you can find on our home page.

Keep in mind that in the world of autograph collecting, a tamper-evident hologram produced by a reputable sports memorabilia business is your assurance against counterfeit items. Every product we offer comes with a 100% lifetime authentic guarantee.

Please note that only items accompanied by our current certificate can be verified in the database. Previous versions of our certificate had the item listed on it.

Verifying The Authenticity Of Sports Memorabilia

There are numerous autograph authentication companies today, each with their own unique method of verifying hand-signed signatures. There are companies with handwriting experts, forensic document analyzers, and corporate institutions such as JSA, PSA/DNA, and Beckett.

Determining the authenticity of an autograph is a multistep process. Here’s a quick look at some of the procedures involved in analyzing an autograph:

  • Analyzing the ink/medium – The ink is inspected closely, with testers looking for signs that it has permeated into the paper, or if it’s mostly on the surface, which may mean it was recently applied. Testers will then check if it is consistent with the date when the item was said to have been signed.
  • Object evaluation – Testers analyze the object bearing the applied autograph by evaluating several characteristics. They look for signs such as etching, deteriorating paper, mildew spots, and other similar issues to determine the age of the autograph. More complex and time-consuming methods are used if the signed piece of memorabilia is a bat, glove, ball, jersey, or other piece of equipment.
  • Structural evaluation – This step is similar to handwriting analysis, and the techniques involved are more or less the same ones used for forensic handwriting evaluation. Every letter, nuance, and component is closely examined. Details taken into account include starts, stops, letter angle, style, signature flow, and spontaneity.
  • Comparison – The signature is examined side by side with a verified signature or a copy of an authentic signature. Autograph authenticators have access to a library that contains a wide variety of verified autographs to use as references.
  • Advanced methods – State-of-the-art equipment and advanced techniques are required in some cases in order to accurately determine an autograph’s authenticity. The methods and equipment used involve color algorithm analysis, magnification, infrared imaging, and other sophisticated techniques to examine autographs in great detail.

Post-Verification

  • Tagging the item – After the completion of the authentication process, the item is tagged and affixed with a tamper-resistant foil hologram label. A unique serial number is found within the label, and is recorded in a database for identification purposes.
  • Certification – A corresponding document, known as a Letter of Authenticity or LOA is issued. This contains the serial number and tamper-resistant label that matches the one affixed on the item.
